Welcome to Spring! Last spring we talked about Spring Awakenings in Newsletter #3. This year, all sorts of new buds are blooming. Now the question is, what cleanse is right for you to get these blooms to reach their full potential?
Just as one lifestyle choice isn’t right for everyone, the same goes for detoxing. One thing is for sure – the benefits of removing toxins from the body are endless; anything from a break in allergy suffering to helping to lose or gain weight.
Here are the three main types of detox:
Varying in lengths (one day to 7 days, generally), these cleanses can range from meal replacement to meal supplement. It has been recommended to detox this way in the spring with organic, seasonal vegetable or fruit juices (or smoothies!). Careful attention must be paid when using a juice cleanse as meal replacements. Your body could react in an undesirable way if you are not giving it enough nutrients while trying to remove the toxins!
Also varying in lengths (30 days seem to be the most popular), this cleanse involves removing certain types of food from your everyday diet that help to cause a buildup of toxins and/or inflammation. The foods to avoid also happen to be the some of most common allergens: sugar, caffeine, gluten, dairy, soy and peanuts, to name a few. The key here, especially to be able to stay on the cleanse until the desired end, is to replace those bad-for-you-but-so-good foods with more healthy, satisfying choices.
Meditation and/or exercise
Yes, movement can be a detox!
And doing it alone or with any of the cleanses above works wonders. I’ve talked ad-nauseum about stress and cortisol levels as it pertains to massage. Movement and meditation have the same cortisol-releasing effect. When you’ve got the right amount (not too much and not too little), your body can do what it’s meant to do on its own – balance the good and the bad naturally. I would even go so far as to say, without some sort of movement and/or meditation, it’s possible no cleanse will work.
